I have become slightly obsessed with this smoothie over the past few weeks. I haven't had the time or funds for more elaborate cooking projects, but I've managed to find some basic tasty recipes that have come in very handy, including this one. This green smoothie combines pineapple, pear, banana, orange juice, honey and spinach, with some flax seeds thrown in for a little added health benefit.
I was first attracted to the smoothie because of its striking green color and when I learned the source of the color– spinach– I was even more intrigued. I had heard of spinach smoothies before, but I thought they were only for those health nuts who will juice any fruit or vegetable they can get their hands on– carrot & cucumber juice? No thanks. But, I found this recipe on one of my favorite blogs, Annie's Eats, and in the entry Annie mentioned that you can't even taste the spinach, despite it being a primary ingredient. I was doubtful, but guess what? She was right. No hint of spinach in this recipe. Don't believe me? Try it out for yourself. It is tangy, refreshing and delicious and I highly recommend it.
